HERO: David Eisenberg

David, along with Tony Novelli, is leading the country in changing building codes to support sustainability... THANK YOU!! Check out the Development Center for Appropriate Technology (www.dcat.net).

One tidbit of wisdom that David shared with me is a beautifully simple way to introduce people to the basic ideas of sustainability: feedback loops. As our systems (food, resources, economic flows etc.) become globalized and consolidated, it means that the time and distance of the effects of any action is great, and therefore far from our individual control and potentially quite dangerous (and there are some juicy examples of this). However, in a localized system, the feedback loops are smaller, more accessible and more in our control, therefore safer, more adaptable and appropriate. Easy: act locally!
