STRATEGY: plant yourself and work from there

Barbara Rose is another superhero! Dancing Rocks Permaculture Community has been planted on the edge of the saguaro “forest” desert for twenty years, and provides a stark contrast to the ever-developing town around them. Right next door to their thriving gardens that use only rainwater, houses that utilize the sun’s free abundant energy and other sustainability technology, are the ever-expanding cookie cutter developments – built with NO regard to rain or solar abundance.

After trying to work with local developers to no avail, Barbara Rose is waiting for them to come begging for her advice once they are in crisis with their ever-lowering aquifer, rising heating/cooling costs, etc. In the meantime, she has been working with Marana City Council (fastest growing city in America) – and has successfully gotten the words “permaculture,” “natural building,” and “sustainability” into the city charter… but do they know what the words mean? We’ll see!
