HERO: Deron

This is Deron... he started Freecycle and lives here in Tucson! I like the story of Freecycle: The City of Tucson wasn't collecting recyclables downtown because there was no space on the street for the blue plastic bins. So a small non-profit formed to collect recyclables from offices, and soon they had a warehouse full of useful stuff! Since they didn't have an outlet to get rid of the stuff, Deron posted an email to his neighborhood listserve announcing FREE STUFF. Well, one thing led to another, and now more than 3 million people in over 80 countries connect to each other on freecycle.org websites to give and get free stuff! Sweet!

One neat cross-pollinating side effect of Freecycle: Deron once asked his Tucson Freecycle group how many non-profits used the service, and within 24 hours over 50 groups responded that they check Freecycle regularly. Nice point of connection!
